Summary of the Psycho shower scene for the due date of the 17/10/17-Stuart

What went well:

On the whole I thought the recreation of the 'Psycho' shower scene went really well. At the start of the task we had to be put into groups of four and use different materials  to  make  a recreation of the sound. All the sounds that are  in the video are not downloaded off the internet and are produced by our group.  We went in to different parts of the college to create these sounds and also to get good acoustics.

After we recorded the sounds we went into the editing booth to download the sounds on to the computer and imported them into Premier Pro. We each took turns editing the sounds to synchronise it with the video film with the layers of sound being perfectly synchronised with the video.

What did not go well

When we were using Premier Pro to edit our sounds the programme decided to automatically shut down itself without any reason having the impact of our work being lost. Of the sounds I remember from the session, I felt that the cabbage being stabbed with a knife was not good because it did not recreate the sound of the stabbing. Possibly we could have tried stabbing a melon. The sound of the balloon being rubbed was used to recreate the rubbing on the tiles of the body slumping after it has been stabbed and I felt that it was not as good as it could have been. It was not convincing enough.

The Final Edit

In the final edit we had to recreate the sequence again with all the sounds in pairs. On the whole we managed to finish the edit quite quickly. We didn't change anything in the edit apart from the shower water. With this we decided to layer it to enhance the sound to give it more dimensionality and emphasis. We also used rice being poured into a cup to recreate the sound of the shower water running. This was a successful and convincing sound effect. We also layered the sound of water going down the drain by using a water fountain in the college to make the sound effect sound like real water.
